Been there and done it...When I first met Kathy (whose only water-bourne experience had been a day trip to Calais) I first tried her out with a car trip to Womack staithe where she was fascinated by a pair of grebe doing their mating dance. Building on that we had a day boat from Herbert Woods to the Maltsters for a meal - she was like a kid in a sweetie shop with the wildlife and loved the chat and banter with everyone we met. Then a long weekend on a bathtub with another couple - still all good. next step a long weekend with just the two of us - still all good - now three years on we've bought our own boat and I can't keep her off it - I think I may have created a Broads fanatic. (She's also met a rum owd boy who runs a chandlers in Loddon ;) and helped me fit the mast Bill- which is still standing with no leaks - Thanks for that mate) Andy and Kathy This message was edited by stumpy on Jul-29-10 @ 10:44 AM http://www.the-norfolk-broads.co.uk/viewmessages.cfm?Forum=22&Topic=21258&srow=15&erow=25 stumpy@the-norfolk-broads.co.uk (stumpy) Thu, 29 Jul 2010 08:43:03 GMT General Chat http://www.the-norfolk-broads.co.uk/replytotopic.cfm?Forum=22&Topic=21258 Oulton Broad Pleasure Boat Trips Thank you. So I am, hopefully, excused. The Coltishall run is a favourite, and as a result, its proving difficult to find a new boat! We fancied a bit more space (isn't that always the same - be it tents, caravans, or boats? the desire for bigger and better comes along at some point :) ) We are 6'10 with top down and 23' long. We've had her for 5 seasons and she is a cracking boat with clever layout and in good nick, so we really should drop the idea. Could never give up that stretch of the river - its really one of the best. So get yourself a suitable boat and we'll see you up there for tea and cakes or a pint. Ebay !!! But be prepared to have very, very deep pockets! Old brochures crop up on Ebay from time to time, but the further you go back, the more expensive they are. !980s and 1990s will often fetch between GB Pounds 25 and GB Pounds 40 each. 1970s ones will probably be around the GB Pounds 50 mark now, 1950s and 1960s ones anything from GB Pounds 50 upwards for a reasonable copy. I saw a 1960s one fetch well over GB Pounds 100 a few months back. If you get back to the 1920s and 1930s ... well the sky is the limit. A late 1920s one went for close to GB Pounds 200 within the last 6 months. :( Carol http://www.broadlandmemories.co.uk An Archive Of The Golden Era Of Boating On The Norfolk and Suffolk Broads http://www.the-norfolk-broads.co.uk/viewmessages.cfm?Forum=22&Topic=21268&srow=1&erow=6 AdnamsGirl@the-norfolk-broads.co.uk (AdnamsGirl) Wed, 28 Jul 2010 19:56:22 GMT General Chat http://www.the-norfolk-broads.co.uk/replytotopic.cfm?Forum=22&Topic=21268 Knackered Hi Mike. Thanks for the detailed explanation which I fully understand. My Inlander fridge works well enough and at this time of year with the longer days the batteries hold up, it becomes a problem when the lights and heater is used. I am gong to give the blocks a try and if the temperature does not rise above 3deg C overnight with the power off in the warmer weather I will regard it as a success. Probably the real answer is to fit a digital regulator to improve the charging and this is on the to do list for later this year or over the winter months. Regards. Not because of this below but because Daphne hasnt caught up with me for another 5 years lol ! Senior health care solution - So you're a sick senior citizen and the government says there is no nursing home available for you - what do you do? Our plan gives anyone 65 years or older a gun and 4 bullets. You are allowed to shoot 2 MP s and 2 illegal immigrants! Of course, this means you will be sent to prison where you will get 3 meals a day, a roof over your head, central heating, air conditioning and all the health care you need! New teeth - no problem. Need glasses, great. New hip, knees, kidney, lungs, heart? All covered. (And your kids can come and visit you as often as they do now). And who will be paying for all of this? The same government that just told you that you they cannot afford for you to go into a home. Plus, because you are a prisoner, you don't have to pay any income taxes anymore. I did notice ribbing on the plastic bit and wondered if that was the way to actuate it but chickened out from giving it a twist is case I was wrong and broke it having, nothing else on board to block up the hole. I also noticed that there were no ribs where it goes into the hose and thought about doubling up the clips, now I will do that. As suggested I will go for a new one and direct the out flow to the pump as I m not keen on making more holes in the side of the boat I apart from the sprayed up water from the prop coupling the bilge could cope in an emergency. Griff; the idea of clearly marking the watering area at Ludham sounds good on the face of it but being a bit cynical I suspect that the same people who disregards the sign that is there already would disregard any ground markings etc. I spent twenty minutes holding station at Moonfleet on Monday waiting to get onto the pump ouy and fuel bay (which is clearly marked as no mooring) and spotted one occupant of the hire boat that was being pumped out head of with a shopping list. I could also see the chap doing the fuelling having something to say to her but off she went. After the pump out was finished the boat left and we moved in. We wanted both fuel and pump out so it did take some time, just as we finished the woman turned up loaded with Tesco bags asking where her boat had gone. The Moonfleet man pointed down river and told her down there this did not go down well with the woman who had to get her boat to back up but that s another story……… Once again thanks for the help.
