A magical place where land and water, people and nature meet –there’s nowhere quite as special as the Broads. "Please note that this is the final published version...see the final sentance (note no magical). Above is the final sentence, second word magical???????? By Calling the Broads a National Park you ARE clearly misleading the public as it is not and hopefully never will be a National Park. Having lived and run a business in the Peak District for many years (until I had the sense to leave)I can tell you that as a businessman that is an ambition you should never hold. Ian, the more I read this the more it makes me laugh, or cry! If you and your team feel the following statement is true, then it is no wonder you have no real concept of the true problems the area is facing or a viable strategy to deal with them. "Best of all, the Broads is so easy to get to for a holiday, short break or day visit," Dave

On Monday I left home at 5 in the morning and arrived at the Broads for 8.00am, 3 hours in the car but worth every minute, Monday afternoon I left and spent 4 hours in the car getting home. Yes the roads could be better but at what price. Living in Kent we have plenty of motorways M2, M20, M25, M26, we have the largest interconnecting rail network in the country, we have airports galore, the Dartford tunnel, Medway tunnel, even now a Channel tunnel and new high speed rail link, and lets not forget all the ports and ferry terminals. My question to you is in 2 parts, how many of you want to come to Kent for a regular visit? we might not have much grass but there's plenty of noise and tarmac. where would you prefer the new Norfolk motorway, Loddon, Reedham, Horning, Ludham. Maybe if Wroxham bridge were replaced by a 3 lane suspension bridge we could knock down all the Roys stores and expand the A149 into a 3 lane motorway. Whilst I understand people want to get there fast, don't forget why you want to get there.
martin how can such a sleepy paradise create such passion.

Peter, I apologise, I was so busy reading all the text that I neglected the obvious slide show! It has, however, become clear to me over time that all those 'in the know' acknowledge that The Broads (Britain's Magical Waterland) are not a "true" National Park. So much so that the National Parks organisation has changed its whole wording approach to enable it to include The Broads (BMW) in its PR material. Parliament has declared that Sandford cannot be applied, whilst acknowledging that TB (BMW) are otherwise of similar status to all the other members of the NP organisation. This is in writing and cannot be changed without an Act of Parliament, at which time it can be challenged. Can we not just get on with enjoying the area and leave a useful marketing string available to those who need to encourage visitors to the area. Not long now and I will be able to leave one of our NPs to spend some much anticipated time on TB (BMW) a member of the NP family! The best bit of that will be the lack of access to Tinterweb!

Iam probably going to get flamed here??.....and yes before you do let me make it fully clear that i do have a full understanding of the term "A National Park" (personally i never saw it has a threat based on the history that other National parks that have waterways and navigation within ) when we are talking about generating tourism, and lets be honest - the world has opened up - recently peoples appetites to venture has never been more forthcoming, and as a "Brand" i dont think the broads could have used any words better than the term "National Park" in terms of generating tourism ,it sends out all the right signals - in terms of the type of people who it SHOULD be trying to attract,i.e family's who respect not only the culture of the area but the sheer beauty of the area with the respect that it deserves like i say - i fully understand local feelings - but i cant help feeling that you have cooked your goose and not looked at the bigger picture Finny

quote:"...... Best of all, the Broads is so easy to get to for a holiday, short break or day visit, ......." Oh yes? Where from exactly, anywhere in Norfolk or Suffolk maybe I can agree with and easily understand the Broads wanting to attract more visitors but to state that the Broads is 'So easy to get to' is not just misleading it is blatently false. UNLESS one is travelling by train or private helicipter. It is easy to get to on a decent sized motorcycly but how many do that? Have you actually tried the A17/A47 on any day of the week let alone Fridays - Mondays - easy to get to it is not. A day visit from say Sheffield or Doncaster is going to take up around EIGHT hours on a good day to cover 320 miles using the wonderfull road system, that equates to an average of 40mph. Then you have your 'Day out' on the Broads - or what is left of it. Griff 'Broad Ambition' - 'Dreams do come true' - Afloat at last 06-10-07 www.grifftile.co.uk

Grif i always try and recommend to friends and family as such - sadly none who have tried a boating holiday on the broads have returned again ? on questioning i have found that everyone found it a absolute bind in terms of traveling - most said that they felt ripped off by over inflated prices either at the boat yards ,i.e having to pay to park the car or having to pay mooring charges or even for water ?? lets face it most are lucky to get two weeks in these days and to do the whole family thing in and around the broads aint cheap next time you are out and about have a look around and see how many 50 grand Range Rovers are parked outside many broads business.....its there if you look finny
