Yup, the booze cruise does us absolutely no favours. We met up with one at Thurne Lion last week. Hat off to the pub's boss - he told them to cool it or they would be evicted. Bet you can't guess what fleet they were with? Regards Colin Take my advice - there is nothing so nice as messing about on the river.

Does it matter what fleet they were with? Its not just this fleet that hires out to so called undesirables, unfortunately it must be very hard to police un-ruley behaviour once they have left the yard and are down the river! I suppose people who rubbish the broads are entitled to their opinion just like every one else, there wouldn't be enough room for all of us anyway! cheers Andy

I get to meet quite a lot of folk in my job and often they end up looking at 'B.A's timeline picure book (Same copy as we keep onboard). Putting aside the comments ref 'B.A' the most common comment is 'I've always wanted to visit the Broads' I've heard it that many times now I can almost predict it. My usual answer is CHUFFIN GO THEN!!!! down the A1 turn left aT Newark, follow your nose and you're there, it is in this country btw and contrary to popular beleif you no longer need certifying before visiting G.C's and ZTD's home county. Then in a more gentle voice I explain about the Broads and what it has to offer and if they really do want to go I'll advise them on type of boat, yards etc. I've since had a few customers get back to me saying something along the lines of 'We were so glad you did a great job for us with the tiling but even more pleased we met you as we have discovered the magic of the Broads' I'm going to stop doing this as we could end up being overcrowded as we were back in the 70's. got to admit that the first time the Bloke suggested we went boating on the Broads, my reply was along the lines of "are you joking?" in my defence a prologed stay in Great Yarmouth coloured my judgement but on the basis that you should try things once (incest and morris dancing notwithstanding and coming from the west country I've morris danced...) we booked a short weekend easter break thing that was 8 years ago and its extended to a week at Easter, with occasional other trips thown in, and me keeping an eye for jobs in the area, so yes, I'm a convert most people we talk to about it say I've always wanted to do that, not why?

The general response I get when I say we are off to The Broads is "Oh on a narrow boat?" NO!! If I wanted to go on a narrow boat, I would go on a canal. Obviously this is from people who dont have the faintest idea about the magic of the broads, and long may it stay that way. I hope they enjoy their Benidorm trip.

Graham, though Griff is wrong he is actually right ! GC is norfolk and yes i am suffolk (and never the twain shall meet) but to be fair it is the norfolk and suffolk broads, so i think we will have to let him off that one (silly lanc he is)

Andyfish, I think it does matter who it is with. The fleet concerned seems to attract the booze cruisers like no other. I accept that is my personal experience and yes there are others. The other week we witnesssed a Herbert Woods boat out on its training run - full of blokes who were drinking beer even then. Surely that gives the yards some idea of what is coming. The incident at Thurne was not good with much shouting and screaming and the language was awful. As I said my thanks to Thurne Lion for stepping in but this type of stuff has to be stopped somehow. There were young families around - it is not fair.
Regards Colin Take my advice - there is nothing so nice as messing about on the river.
