I can't argue with that, Jaguar. But it does need policing somehow - maybe we should be quicker to report incidents back to the yards. And, in five days afloat I never saw one Broads Authority launcn!

Colin, you are right. i spent 7 days a few weeks back and did not see a broads authority launch either. years ago you would see them daily. Is it cut backs that have reduced the patrols ? As for the booze cruises which i saw about 6 on my week onboard (rowdy, noisy and rude). One particular boat that sleeps 6 had on deck 12 people and maybe more below. More policing has to be the answer try to get the broads back to some sort of normality.

We've been visiting the Broads regularly for about 15 years now and maybe we've been lucky, but we've not encountered many rowdy boatloads. Isn't one of the beauties of a Broads holiday the fact that you can often move on if you don't like the neighbours? As for Broads Authority patrols, they do seem to have become less obvious over the years, although we saw three moored up together at Benet's Abbey when we were there in May - strength in numbers maybe?

I think I only know one person who would not take another boating holiday (she has returned land based to Norfolk), following some possibly contradictory commands from her husband, she threw the warps down and suggested that instead of strutting about looking and sounding like Captain Bligh he might help. I would add I was not the husband and nor was it my wife. Hugh

LetsGoBoating, most rowdiness starts at night - it is difficult to move on after dark. In any event why should there be an expectation that we will move if we meet someone being rowdy! I do agree it does not happen (rowdinesss) frequently but there is in my view an increase in the regularity.

Point taken, Colin. I wasn't suggesting that people should expect to move on when faced with rowdy behaviour, simply that this was an advantage not enjoyed by anyone on a land-based holiday faced with rowdy neighbours. I agree that people should treat others as they would like to be treated themselves - with some consideration. Unfortunately there are a depressing number of people who don't seem to feel the same. Once again, I can only say that we must have been lucky so far (I am touching lots of wood as I type this, by the way) and have not really had any problems with rowdy behaviour, except in passing. It is difficult to know what to suggest to reduce this behaviour. Extra policing doesn't seem to work particularly well in city centres on Saturday nights?

The boatyards do have the discretion to remove unruly customers. My advice would be to report this sort of behaviour. The more complaints are made the greater the likelihood that even the obstinate yards will have to deal with the problem. Contrary to popular belief us hire operators spend a lot of time and money attracting visitors to the Broads and we don't want to lose any of them to an unruly and ignorant minority. Darren

Well said, Darren. Let's hope more boatyards start to think like this. Regards Andy

Hi Darren, your yard seems responsible with your attitude towards this sort of behaviour. If only all yards would follow suit. getting back to my last comment, regarding the overcrowded boat i saw on my journey. I stopped at this yard 2 days later for a water top up. Thinking they should know about their craft i reported it to staff and after giving my contact details, the comment was. "we will make a note of it and confront the hirer on their return. we will let you know the outcome" That was 3 weeks ago and have heard nothing. not that i expected it anyway as its all just talk.
