Delta me thinks you should stay on the ouse with the other cartles, we're not good enoph for you here. Bells are one of the best on the broads, i should know I've known them for over 30 years, unlike you.

I don’t think it’s a case of a cartel but being a small geographical area labour rates and other overheads tend to be the same for most yards so you tend to find the yards looking for the same levels of income to match them. As Jason has commented margins have been and still are very tight. When it comes to competition it is quality of work/service that counts rather than difference in cost. Certainly were it not in the case of smaller yards that family members get roped in many would be completely un-economic. Some of the larger yards tend to up the ‘anti’ because their accountants say so but the smaller ones will not necessarily match them. Some with specialist equipment particularly lifting and piling gear if they are doing it properly will have extra costs. One final thing I would point out is you need to establish at who’s risk the lift is being made as in some cases it is at the boat owners risk. This is particularly true of older boats.

Carltes and Enophs ???? Mmmmmm and to think that was edited. This is more like it, and by the way, you are not the cheapest on the Broads and they can lift a 12 ton 40ft boat. "Hi Glen, Price for lift is £5/ft + VAT - £229.13 Price for hard standing, chocks and labour - £41.13 inc VAT You have been booked in for 11.30 am on Wednesday 4th Aug. Many thanks "

You want something done and get a quote. You don't like the price so ask for advise here. You don't like the replies so you insult the posters. I guess you might struggle to get further help.

Erm, insult other posters??? I got some genuine helpful answers and then some smart ar5ed ones from posters with a vested interest of keeping the prices high. ( Hardly helpful) I am quite able to help myself and don't just accept someone telling me that "this or that" is the way it is. In my humble opinion, the price that was quoted to me from Bells wasn't value for money and I said as much, not only that, I did something about it. The price I have obtained and secured marks a more realistic price for the amount of time endured taking into consideration the length of time, the insurances needed and the man hours involved. If you think otherwise, carry on accepting the hiked prices we have around here.

I must say that is a very good craning price, so where is this boatyard?? Im sure this new boatyard would be very pleased to receive some good advertising from you. Or is it just the 'bad news' you prefer to advise the forum members on? As you know the forum members (boat owners etc) always make a point of praising boatyards when good service & value for money has been provided, but price is not always the key factor for this praise. (This goes or all the different forums that are involved in this industry) Interestingly enough Im pleased to state that during TODAY I received help, & provided help, to 18 other local marine companies! These were - Brooms, Hardy Marine, Royals, Ferry, Freedom, Richardson's, Barnes, NBD ltd, Cox's Boatyard, Brimbelow Eng, Haines, Bridge Boats, Wroxham Marine, Markwell Eng, Aquafax, Brian Wards, Stelcoyacht Technique & BK Windows & AnH yachting!! (Busy day for me!) We all had different problems and they all related to the same subject which was - 'just trying to provide Norfolk boating customers a good service, and to enable these customers to have a good holiday on the Norfolk Broads' - Basically we were just doing our job! Im proud to be involved in this industry & to know many of the people involved. Lucky enough the majority of customers respect the work & services the different local companies provide, but unfortunately there is always the one!!! Thanks for the information on Bell Boats anyway and look forward to hearing how things go with your boat lift, obviously this would come via the Norfolk Broads cartel!!
They say that 'Hard work never killed anyone' however, sleepless nights, stress, not taking breaks & not eating correctly may just get you there early!!

You of all people want to know where this boatyard is, the one that has helped the least. Where is this warped world you reside in? If you call- telling me that I should except an over inflated price and then go on to tell me days later that you are connected with the industry and that you actually lift boats and that you are the cheapest lifts on the Broads, then as I say, if you think that is help, then god help anyone when you are going out of your way to be a hindrance

I guess you must be the "cheapest on the broads" and just by chance offer the best boatyard service too, what a coincidence that only you could offer the two, hand in hand. I guess you must be a one off, well done! With regards to the boat lift, I am sure it will go just fine, no thanks to yourself.

Delta 3 I find you a rather offensive man. If you are really as uninformed as you clearly are I suggest you get yourself educated with some good manners. I do not normally bother with threads like this but you have really put my back up. Edited with respect to Rondonay. This is the first time in 1000 odd posts that I have been remotely close to a modding which says something. Barry " A well balanced man has a drink in each hand " Billy Connolly
