Will inquire about planning. Elsewhere in Beccles people having piling work done have had to seek planning.

Jenny Morgan,
A vane, a boat, but not a bird.

Quote "The WDC state that due to the fact that the strip of land running along the north side of the bay belongs to them, they have been advised that planning permission is not required to place post in the water anywhere up too the middle of the water course."

That can not be right. Else anybody with a riverside property, who owns the land up to the rivers edge would be able to stick a post halfway across the river without planning permission. Could see that causing some fun at places such as Potter or Horning.

Are these 16 new moorings, permanent, or residential? either way surely it is a change of use for the type of mooring and would need planning permission. My understanding is that for planning purposes a distinction is made between permanent and short term or visitor moorings.

It would appear that planning permission was needed after all. Retrospective planning permission has now been apllied for here,

WDC appear to be claiming that the Hire Fleet is shrinking. According to The BA's figures there has been an increase of 49 hire craft registrations in 2009 over 2008 (July vs. July).

Growing old is unavoidable. Growing up is, however, optional!

Yesterday afternoon a crowd of intelligent suited ladies and men gathered near the new posts (no, not in the water but on the far bank) and appeared to be discussing the mooring posts. They did not have worry about hostile crowds as the Ranger was well in sight, albeit on the other side of the dyke.

I wonder how the haggling went?

In the modern world the quangos and the councils are staffed by those with "degrees" and therefor they are considered "intelligent", this does not mean they know what they are doing only that they "profess" to know.

As for "gentlemen" I remember being at school (many years ago) when a girl said to the master "there is a man to see you", the master replied "your mean a gentleman?" and the girl said "no a man, he still has his hat on indoors"

Back to the conflab, they would not have been in this state if they had known what they were doing before driving the piles into the water. Or am I wrong???

Personally I'm in two minds over those piles, but they do seem to be like a magnet to some not very tidy boats! As for planners, WDC or BA, grrrrrrrrrrrr.

Jenny Morgan,
